Montessori Lead Teacher and Director

My name is Barbara. I am the Montessori lead teacher and director.

I love what I do! I never get tired of seeing the look of wonder and amazement on a child’s face when they realize they can do something new. As I see their independence grow so does their trust in themselves. This is the beginning of their journey as a life-long learner.

My role as lead teacher is to be a guide for the children and sometimes for the parents. My responsibilities include, and are not limited to:

  • Observe and record each child’s development and their needs.
  • Create a prepared environment and activities that are creatively inviting and developmentally appropriate for all children.
  • Develop an appropriate curriculum for each child and for the class.
  • Model positive attitudes in action and in words. That is to be mindful and respectful of self and others, to be responsible for one’s own behavior and to be honest.
  • Share with the parents insights about their child’s developmental style in their emotional, physical, cognitive and social growth.
  • Help children interact socially and learn that sharing is caring!

My role as director is to take care of EAM and its staff. An added perk is I meet awesome families!

My responsibilities include, and are not limited to:

  • Be instrumental in creating community with and among the amazing children and awesome families.
  • Hire caring and nurturing teachers.
  • Manage the budget.
  • Oversee the day-to-day upkeep of the environment, play yard and garden.

I ensure that EAM and staff members are in compliance with all state and city regulations and standards.

My credentials include, a Master of Science in Education, a Certified NYS Public School Teacher and an American Montessori Society certified 3-6 Montessori teacher. I have over thirty-five years of experience as a Montessori Lead Teacher, educational consultant and supervisor. I am a lifetime member of the American Montessori Society.

Assistant Teachers

The assistant teacher’s role is to help and support the lead teacher. They are essential in facilitating an awesome day for the children! Each assistant teacher has their own unique style of nurturing. Their commitment to the Montessori philosophy is evident in their peaceful and respectful interactions with the children.

Their responsibilities include, and are not limited to:

  • Maintain a clean and appealing environment.
  • Change learning activities in the classroom as needed.
  • Share their observations about the child with the lead teacher.
  • Work one-on-one or in small groups with the children.
